Absen are honoured to be involved with the 2014 Folkestone Triennial, one of the most ambitious public art projects in the UK.
Ledges and a Portaledge Tent will be positioned alongside the top floor of The Grand Burstin Hotel in Folkestone, Kent. From the 30th August until 2nd November 2014.
Volunteers will occupy the ledges throughout the nine week period as part of Alex Hartley’s commission “Vigilâ€. Vigil is a cluster of high level outposts which is made up of suspended sleeping platforms. Individuals with a good head for heights will be able to take advantage of this room with a view, whether it be to sit in solitude to write, reflect or simply relax whilst taking in the views and sea air around them.
This is part of the ‘Lookout’ theme for this years Folkestone Triennial. Alex Hartley is an internationally renowned artist who is known for working with photography and architecture.
Alex’s Nowhereisland was one of 12 “Artists Taking the Lead†projects across the UK which formed part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. This project achieved national and international media coverage. Alex has shown his work in various international exhibitions and museums.
We are steadily growing our list of arts and entertainment clients ever since assisting with film work for the BBC on the Cutty Sark, and working at the new Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury where we helped them with the Light show installation in the main theatre.
